Terms of Use

1. Who can use Scran

You must be at least 16 years old to use Scran.

By creating an account, you confirm that:

• The information you provide is accurate
• You are legally able to use the service

2. Your account

You are responsible for your account and how it is used.

We may suspend or permanently delete accounts where necessary, including if:

• These Terms are breached
• The service is misused
• The app is used for illegal purposes
• There is abusive, excessive, or harmful usage of the platform

3. Access to Scran

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Scran for personal, non-commercial use only.

You may not:

• Copy, modify, or reverse engineer any part of the app
• Use Scran to build a competing product
• Commercially exploit any part of the service

All intellectual property rights in Scran (excluding your content) belong to us.

4. Your content

You can upload and save content in Scran, including:

• Recipe URLs
• Images (e.g. photos of recipes)

Ownership

You retain ownership of any content you upload.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for the content you upload. This means:

• You must have the right to use and upload it
• You must not upload content that infringes copyright or other rights

Our use of your content

To provide the service, you grant us a limited licence to:

• Store your content
• Process it (including using AI)
• Display it back to you within the app

We do not make your content public or share it with other users.

5. AI features

Scran uses AI to:

• Extract recipes from URLs and images
• Simplify recipe steps

AI-generated outputs:

• May be inaccurate or incomplete
• May not always reflect the original recipe perfectly

Scran is designed to make cooking easier, but:

• You are responsible for how you use recipes
• You should always use your own judgement when cooking
• You are responsible for food safety and dietary considerations

6. Fair use (important)

To keep Scran sustainable and accessible, we apply a fair use limit:

• You may use up to 500 AI actions per month, including:
  • Recipe imports (from URLs or images)
  • Recipe simplification

If usage exceeds this limit, we may:

• Temporarily restrict access to these features
• Contact you to discuss usage
• Suspend or limit accounts where usage is abusive

We aim to apply this fairly and transparently.

7. Prohibited use

You agree not to:

• Use Scran for illegal purposes
• Abuse, disrupt, or interfere with the service
• Attempt to copy, modify, or reverse engineer the platform
• Use Scran to build competing products

8. Subscriptions and payments

Scran may offer paid subscriptions.

Where applicable:

• Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled
• Pricing and features will be clearly communicated
• Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis

Payments are processed via RevenueCat and relevant app store providers.

9. Third-party services

Scran may include links to third-party websites or services.

We are not responsible for the content or practices of third-party services.

10. Feedback

If you provide feedback or suggestions, you agree that we may use them without restriction or compensation.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Scran (and its team) harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the service
• Your breach of these Terms
• Your content, including any infringement of third-party rights

12. Availability and changes

Scran is provided on an “as is” basis.

We do not guarantee that:

• The app will always be available
• The app will be error-free

We may update, change, or suspend the service at any time.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law:

Scran is not liable for:

• Errors in recipes or AI outputs
• Cooking outcomes or food safety issues
• Loss of data or content
• Service interruptions or downtime

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

14. Deleting your account

You can request deletion of your account at any time by contacting:

We will delete your account and associated data in line with our Privacy Policy.

We may also delete accounts that violate these Terms.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

We will update the “Last updated” date when we do.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland.
